Hello Thursday. April 25 2024 Fee-fi-fo-fum we want drinks without the rum.
Or any alcohol for that matter.
This time of year, mocktails are all the rage. Thousands of Americans participate in Dry January — a month-long challenge that encourages people to refocus, cleanse their systems + abstain from alcohol consumption.
The challenge can be tough, so we decided to round-up a few local offerings that go beyond a rocks glass of cranberry juice.
Sip on for mocktails made with spiritless bourbon, full sober menus + a locally made superfood cocktail mixer.
🍹 Drinks Fancy Water | Planet of the Tapes, 640 Barret Ave. In addition to making any of this movie-themed bar’s cocktails into booze-free drinks, it also specializea in something they call, Fancy Water — a mixture of soda water + any of its house-made simple syrups. We suggest trying the mango-habanero.
Mocktail special | Shop Bar, 950 Barret Ave. Created by one of Shop Bar’s bartenders, this Dry January special is crafted with house-made hibiscus syrup, pineapple + ginger. Pro tip: Visit this half bar half boutique on Tuesdays for the Dakshin food truck. Try Shop Bar's mocktail made with hibiscus syrup, pineapple + ginger. | Photo by @shopbarlouisville 🍹 Full menus at The Wiggle Room, 1066 Bardstown Rd. Available year-round, this Bardstown Road bar flaunts a full sober menu filled with four mocktails + three non-alcoholic beers.
Through this month, Gold Bar is bringing back favorites from its Sober Mocktober menu + adding a few new creations — like The Slow Rush made with Spiritless Kentucky 74, super lime, agave syrup, and blueberry preserves.
The Flamingo Lounge, 119 S. 7th St. Try the Hot Notty special — a hot toddy sans the bourbon — or dive into one of three booze-free drinks. We’re dying to try the Eat, Drink, and be Rosemary made with lime juice, rosemary demerara, soda + a Luxardo cherry.
This NuLu karaoke bar is ditching the liquid courage on its Spiritless cocktail menu featuring the distilled non-alcoholic spirit company’s Kentucky 74 — a faux bourbon — in three different drinks. Modica comes from the word "modicum" meaning a small amount of a great thing. | Photo by @drinkmodica 🍹 Make at home with Created by two Louisvillians, Eric + JD, Modica is a line of cocktail or mocktail mixers made with superfoods. These better-for-you mixers are packed with naturally-sourced ingredients, vitamins + antioxidants. Mix one of the three flavors — Cucumber Aloe Margarita, Turmeric Ginger Mule, or Tart Cherry Old Fashioned — with club soda to make a superfood spritzer that tastes like a cocktail. Try it at Cultured cheese shop or use Modica’s store finder to find a shelf near you.

Editor's Pick: Ever since learning about Norton Common’s new tasting room, The Heirloom Chef’s Table, in November, I’ve been pining to make a reservation.
Over the weekend I finally snagged my spot to sample Chef Ryan’s six-course menu on Valentine’s Day because that’s how much I love myself.
