Hello Friday.
April 19 2024
The Galleria of St. Matthews — which once housed local businesses like Havana Rumba, Pretty Paws + Nail Therapy Studio — is getting a second life.
After the roof collapsed in 2019, the East End strip mall located at 4101 Oechsli Ave. was condemned and left vacant, but a local real estate group, Kaden Companies, has plans to breathe new life into the shopping center.
Kaden Companies will add a second floor. | Rendering by DKN Architects, Raven Parmer + Tom Kargl.
The company’s plan — approved by the city on Wednesday — is to fully redevelop the two-acre property that sits between Sears and Thierman Avenues in the heart of St. Matthews. The 23,000-sqft ground-floor retail space will be modernized + a second floor with 4,000-10,000-sqft of office or medical space will be added.
The company also plans to move its headquarters to the redeveloped space.
Leases are still in the process, but expect at least one restaurant to open. Interested in setting up shop? Learn more here.

Editor's pick: On Wednesday night I indulged in a couple of French 95s listening to jazz at The Whirling Tiger. Afterward, a late night snack was calling my name and what pairs best with this classy drink? Burritos.
My tip to you though is don’t be tempted by the Bell. You know which one. La Bamba next door on Bardstown Road is so much better — no lines + a friendly staff. Next time you need a salty, second dinner try the mini veggie burrito with extra green sauce.
