All roads lead to bourbon in Kentucky, and as an $8.6 billion industry with more than 20,100+ jobs pushing this economic juggernaut forward, it’s no surprise that we’re serious about celebrating the spirit.
September marks the start of Bourbon Heritage Month in the commonwealth, and with the Kentucky Bourbon Festival also beginning today in Bardstown, we thought we’d give you 7 local ways to celebrate.

Michter’s Fort Nelson | This distillery, situated in the historic Fort Nelson Building, reopened last week after being closed to the public for more than a year due to the pandemic. The building at 801 E. Main St. that houses the distillery was built in 1890 and also features a ritzy upstairs bar that serves classic + modern cocktails.

Whiskey Walking Tours | See for yourself what a treasure trove Whiskey Row is with these free, guided walking tours. The 10-block journey through Downtown Louisville is led by a guide sharing knowledge of whiskey from pre-Prohibition Louisville to the current day. Tours begin at the Louisville Visitor Center and last 90 minutes. Be sure to register online beforehand.

- MozzaPi, an Anchorage, Kentucky-based pizza place, is opening its second location today at 1020 Craft Brewery on East Washington Street. The shop is situated at the front of the brewery + will offer the same menu from its original location on LaGrange Road. 🍕 (Louisville Business First)

- Kroger launched a “virtual convenience store” and delivery service in partnership with Instacart. Kroger Delivery Now will provide grocery delivery to shoppers in as little as 30 minutes. The new service will have a 15% service fee and a $2.99 delivery fee. 🛒 (The Courier-Journal)

- Capstone Realty is looking to expand its mixed-use development, Commerce Crossings, in South Louisville with an adjacent development at 9701 Cooper Church Rd. The second development, Commerce Crossings Two, already has 4 commercial buildings planned which will house logistics + health facilities. (Louisville Business First)

- Snoop Dogg has dropped out of the lineup for Louder Than Life, a local metal music festival set to take place next weekend. Snoop called off all of his 2021 festival appearances. In his stead, Falling In Reverse will take his place on stage on Sept. 25. 🎤 (The Courier-Journal)
Correction
- In yesterday’s newsletter, we stated that it was the first day of Yom Kippur — that was incorrect. Yom Kippur is 1 holy day that began at sunset yesterday, Sept. 15, and ends at sundown tonight. The candle that is lit is called a Yahrzeit candle, not a Shabbat candle.
